Family Stories: Parents offer advice to parents concerned about their child's development or a diagnosis of autism

Parents Need to Know What to Expect

Registered members

Nadia, mother of Liana, a young child with ASD, discusses how doctors can help parents detect delays in their children by giving them an overview of typical development, and what to expect in their child's behavior and development between visits. She describes how she failed to notice the signs of ASD in Liana immediatly, because she did not have a sense of typical developmental milestones. Nadia also urges doctors to share their concerns with parents immediatly as "waiting to see what happens" may result in a missed opportunity to help an at risk child.
